The critically-acclaimed and fan-favorite Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, “The Best of Both Worlds,” will be in theaters for one day only in advance of an upcoming Blu-Ray release.
“The Best of Both Worlds” combines the third-season finale and fourth-season premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the smash-hit spinoff of the 1960s science fiction classic. The episode, considered a favorite by many Trek fans, deals with the part-organic, part-machine Borg Collective, in their attempt to assimilate the United Federation of Planets and Earth.
In hundreds of theaters across the country, Fathom Events will be showing a version that combines the two parts of the episode into one movie-length event. In addition, extra features from the upcoming Blu-Ray releases of the series will be shown, including a behind-the-scenes look at the episode.
This is part of the re-mastering project from CBS Home Entertainment to bring Star Trek: The Next Generation into the world of high definition. Originally mastered on standard definition tape, CBS Digital and other companies are going back to the original film elements of the series and re-scanning them for a full, high-definition presentation. Only when needed are effects remade from scratch. The goal is not to change the look of the 80s/90s smash hit, but to remain true to the original show, while enhancing the presentation.
