Enterprise City Council Fills Gaps

More than 200 people packed a special meeting of the Enterprise City Council this afternoon.

Council members appointed businessman Doug Vickers to fill the remaining school board term of Joe Paul Stewart, who resigned last week.

Since School Superintendent Dr. Aaron Milner announced his resignation the city and schools have been at odds over proceeds from a half-cent sales tax that was passed after the deadly March 2007 tornado.

“Mr. Vickers will build a consensus. He is a strong independent thinker. He will do things right in the best interest of children," said Dr. Bob Phares, Ret. Assistant Superintendent.

As of 6:23 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 the school board meeting was still discussing hiring a replacement for Dr. Milner.
