Officials say the Doug Tew Recreation Center in Dothan needs immediate repairs.
Recreation Department officials say immediate roof repairs are needed.
They say the roof leaks every time it rains and even days after the rain stops.
The board had three options to choose from.
Option one was a total replacement which costs $4 million.
Option two was for an extensive amount of repairs which totaled about $2 million.
Some commissioners raised concerns about whether the building should be torn down rather than repaired at such high costs.
The board met Thursday and choose option one which is to repair the roof, do some electrical work and upgrade the bathrooms to ADA standards that option will costs about one million dollars.
"We have different groups that have been meeting there for several years and when we get rain it's a constant leak and therefore these events have to be canceled. We've been patching it for several years and that's worked up until this point it's jut beyond patching and we need to replace it," said Dothan Leisure Services Dept. Dir. Elston Jones.
Recreation officials say the roof needs to be repaired soon since the center is a voting location for residents.
If not voting machines may be moved to another spot within the center.
City commissioners will vote on the board's recommendation at Tuesday's commission meeting.
