Dothan Liquor Stores Prepare for Sunday

This weekend will be the first weekend Dothan stores can sell wine, beer and liquor on Sundays.

The sales can only be made after 1:00 p.m.

Dothan residents, businesses and officials are preparing for Sunday, but many aren't sure what to expect.

"After I come from church I plan to stop buy and have a nice cool drink. Whether it's a long island iced tea or a glass of lemonade," Resident Elijah Sanders said.

Some liquor stores are preparing for a busy weekend ahead.

"I'm pretty sure we're going to be really busy. Everyone that's came in says they’re going to be here. Even if it's just one beer they're coming. Sales are going to be really good," Manager of Van’s Package, Christina Chandler said.

On the other side of town, West Side Spirit's Manager Diana Songer says they're not expecting anything out of the ordinary.

"We don't really know what to expect. The beer sales I think we're expecting to go up. We may be wrong. It may be something that is huge, it may increase a lot of business but until it happens we really don't know," Manager of West Side Spirits, Diana Songer said.

"I think it'll be about the same, I think you'll have a few people just as a convenience because it's going to be available that they will take advantage of it," Resident Ezekiel Salter said.

Businesses aren't sure what to expect this Sunday, but there is a possibility there will be an increase in business once football season comes around.

"I think during football season we're going to see an increase for you know the games on Sunday," Songer said.

"Football season's going to be awesome it's going to be really good around here," Chandler said.

While businesses are preparing for the unexpected, officials say they'll be going about business as usual.

The Dothan Police Department says they'll be keeping an eye out for drunk or impaired drivers.
