During Monday night’s broadcast, WTVY reported that the results of Dothan’s District 2 Commission Race had not been challenged.
Today, we have learned that former District 2 Candidate Lamesa Danzey has challenged the results of that election.
The paperwork was filed electronically after the Clerk’s Office closed.
Danzey believes absentee ballots were compromised. She led incumbent Amos Newsome at the polls, but Newsome dominated the absentee race 119 to 5.
In her filing, Danzey claims illegal votes were given to Newsome. She also contends legal votes for her were disallowed or not counted.
The filing stated the following; “Amos Newsome was declared the winner of the Aug. 6, 2013 election for Commissioner District 2 of the City of Dothan due to offers to bribe, bribery, intimidation or other misconduct calculated to prevent a fair, free and full exercise of the elective franchise…and but for the misconduct, Lamesa Danzey would have been the winner of said election.”
Danzey is also challenging Newsome’s eligibility to hold the District 2 Commission seat.
Her filing says, “At the time of the election, Amos Newsome was not eligible to hold the office of Commissioner District 2”.
