Decatur Taxpayers No Longer Funding Meals for Elected Officials

Decatur taxpayers will no longer be funding meals for elected officials.

Morgan County Commissioners, Mayors, Councilmen, Clerks and some of their relatives have gathered for informal meals over the past 40 years.

The public complained their taxes financed these meals. Now, the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce is offering to fund them privately. It plans to use donated money from the chamber’s political action committee called prosperity PAC.

Chamber President John Seymour says the meetings were strictly social and nurture relationships between county officials.
