DVD & Blu-Ray Today: August 12, 2014

Every Tuesday, News 4 This Morning takes a look at the major and notable DVD & Blu-Ray releases of the week!

These are some of the notable releases for August 12, 2014 in Region 1 (North America) coming to retail on Blu-Ray and/or DVD:

Muppets Most Wanted (PG, Disney, DVD & Blu-Ray) - This latest feature film that features Kermit, Miss Piggy, and Animal, along with Tina Fey and Selma Hayek. In the movie, The Muppets embark on an international tour, but soon find themselves wrapped up in a criminal plot. The Blu-Ray release includes an extended cut.

Batman: Assault on Arkham (PG-13, DVD & Blu-Ray, Warner Home Video) – The latest DC direct-to-video animated feature focuses on a group of villains recruited by the government to break into the infamous supervillain prison Arkham Asylum. Batman becomes involved, and later the Joker escapes. The feature includes the voice talents of long-time voice actor Kevin Conroy as Batman, as well as Criminal Minds' Mathew Gray Gubler as the Riddler.

Hercules (G, DVD & Blu-Ray, Disney) – The latest release from the Disney vault is an animated spin on the Greek myth of Hercules. Featuring the voice talents of Danny Devito and James Woods as well as some gospel-inspired music, this release features remastered video, as well as extras detailing the making of the movie.

Looney Tunes: The Platinum Collection Volume 3 (Not Rated, Blu-Ray, Warner Home Video) – The latest collection of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts features a variety of shorts featuring characters like Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Speedy Gonzales and many more. The video is remastered in high-definition, and extras such as commentaries and documentaries.

Young Justice: The Complete First Season (Not Rated, Blu-Ray, Warner Home Video) – Released in high definition for the first time, this Blu-Ray release collects all 26 episodes of the first season of the DC Animated series. The series focuses on younger superheroes such as Robin, Superboy, and Kid Flash.

Turtle Power: Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Not Rated, DVD, Paramount) – Released to coincide with the new Michael Bay-produced reboot of the hit franchise, this documentary delves into the history of the comic book that started it all, its popular 1980s cartoon, the toys and merchandise and much more.

Power Rangers MegaForce – Vol. 5 – A Battle to the Finish (Not Rated, DVD, Lionsgate) – The latest single-disc release of the 20th season of Power Rangers collects four episodes of the show. This is released as the 21st season, Super MegaForce, currently airs new episodes on Nickelodeon.

Beyblade: The Classic First Season (Not Rated, New Video Group, DVD) – This anime originally aired in the USA on ABC Family when that network showed animated programming. The series focuses on Tyson Granger, who competes with others in battles with spinning tops that contain creatures within them. This release includes all 51 episodes of the original series as it aired in the US.
