The Daleville Boys Basketball Team had a plan entering Thursday night's 3A Regional Semifinal game against Cottage Hill. The Warhawks coaching staff told it's players to attack the basket.
Apparently, something got lost in translation. The Warhawks suffered through a miserable shooting night, hitting just 32 percent of their shots, including 25 percent from 3-point range in a 51-47 loss.
With the win, the Warriors advanced to the 3A Regional Final on Saturday against Southside-Selma. Daleville's season comes to an end with a 28-3 record.
Cottage Hill jumped on Daleville from the opening tip, hitting a trio of 3-pointers to build a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. The Warhawks finally took their coaches advice to heart, driving to the basket for easier looks.
Robert McGirt sparked the Warhawks comeback with several driving lay-ups, and Daleville cut Cottage Hill's lead to 27-22 at halftime.
Daleville would continue to battle in the second half, finally hitting a pair of 3-pointers, as McGirt connected from long range and Jordan McIntyre followed with a 3-pointer of his own, cutting Cottage Hill's lead to 36-34.
But, the Warhawks would get no closer, as Cottage Hill extended it's lead, then hung on for the four-point win.
Matt Scelsi had a team-high 17 points for Cottage Hill. McGirt led Daleville with 27 points.
