Competition Drives Early Co. Students to Give

What better way to inspire good will... than a little friendly competition?

Organizers with Early County 4H Club and Early County Elementary School announced the winner in their community food drive. Grades kindergarten through fifth have collected food for the last two weeks. Winners get extra play time outside...And a special snack in the classroom.
Second grade edged out the fifth graders, but it's not just about beating each other.

"It's a good project for the kids because a lot of them don't understand that there are people who don't have food to eat during the holidays," said 4-H coordinator Stephanie Benton. "So it's a good time for them to learn how to give back to the community. We do have a high rate of people that are unemployed so this (food) is going to come in handy."

The school collected more than 1,000 cans and boxes in total. The students will take the food to First Baptist Church's food bank in Blakely.
