Comic Con Begins (KFMB)
The 44th annual Comic-Con International began Wednesday night with previews of upcoming TV series at the San Diego Convention Center.
The convention began as a small gathering of comic book enthusiasts but has grown over the years to include Hollywood films and television programs. It now attracts 126,000 attendees, the largest annual show at the convention center.

Hordes of comic book and sci-fi fans descended in San Diego, California Tuesday (7/16) for the annual "Comic Con" Festival.
Though the festival officially begins Thursday (7/18), many people came early for the pre-convention events and exhibits.
One of the events is the "Course of the Force" -- a charity race from Skywalker Ranch in California's Bay Area to downtown San Diego, finishing at the convention center. Hundreds of racers participated.
The pre-comic con celebration wasn't just for the runners to geek out in their favorite costumes, each runner paid a one-hundred and fifty dollar fee which went directly to the "Make-A-Wish" foundation.
Senior Vice President of the event, Andy Bush says the time and energy people had put into their costumes was incredible.
And it was an enjoyable way to kick off 2013's Comic Con season.
