Astronauts of the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft started their scientific and technological experiments in space on Friday, after they spent their first night on the space module Tiangong-1 on Thursday night.
In the morning, the three astronauts -- Nie Haisheng, Zhang Xiaoguang and Wang Yaping -- started to replace the old softer floor with a harder one and equipped it with a caging device.
The new floor is reportedly to benefit astronauts as it helps them keep balance in space.
Experts say in the future orbiters, astronauts will be required to complete assembling and maintenance work in orbiter.
Laying a new floor for Tiangong-1 is not only a test on whether the floor material and fixing position fit the orbiter, but at the same time it has provided experience for future space module designing and laid a good foundation for future space training.
The astronauts of the Shenzhou-10 spacecraft entered space module Tiangong-1 on Thursday afternoon, according to Beijing Aerospace Control Center.
After entering the space module, they examined its air condition as well as the facility condition. And it proved that despite Tiangong-1 having been airtight for a year, the air quality inside is still in good condition and all the facilities work well.
Meanwhile, in order to work more effectively, astronauts can have break during their night shift as technicians on earth are monitoring the space module closely and will wake them up if necessary.
