Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect Charged

The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings now faces federal charges.

19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was read the charges Monday in his Boston hospital room.

His initial court appearance was conducted there by a federal magistrate judge.

The charges are:
-One count of using and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction resulting in death.
-One count of malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.

If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been hospitalized since Friday night after authorities found him hiding in a boat.

Authorities believe he and his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, were behind the bombings that killed three people and injured more than 170 others.

They are also accused in the death of a university police officer.

Tamerlan died after a shootout with authorities.
