Every Monday a group of seniors gets together to make music.

"I started coming to the center when I was 60 and I joined the rhythm band and I liked it and I just started staying in it," said band member Lorene Bredley.

"I play in the rhythm band," said band member Rebi Patterson.

The band is a way to keep seniors active.

"It helps them mentally physically they have to use their hands they are all the time active and instead of just sitting at home doing nothing but watching TV if they have to a center in their area or they can come here," said Carolyn Hardy, director of the Blakely Senior Center.

"Once you retire and stuff you like to get involved and stay active like play in the rhythm band," said Bredley. "I like to come out and fellowship with my friends and cousin and church members it keeps you from being at home,"

The band has center members and staff looking forward to Mondays.

Anyone 60 or older can join the rhythm band.

Senior citizens in Blakely are showing off their music skills by playing together in a rhythm band.

On Monday, WTVY traveled to the Blakely Senior Center to see the rhythm band in action. Tune in to WTVY News 4 tonight and WRGX News at 5:30 p.m. for a full report.
