ATLANTA (AP) -- Officials with an Atlanta-area charity warn of a scam where a woman is calling people and claiming to represent the organization so she can scam people out of their money.

Officials with the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta told WSB-TV the woman calls herself Jennifer and tells people on the phone that she is with Furniture Bank. She says the charity is giving away $1,400 to 14 needy families.

Later in the call the woman asks for Social Security numbers, bank account numbers and debit card pin numbers. She also says she will come by and make a copy of the bank card for the charity's records.

A spokeswoman for the Furniture Bank, Megan Anderson, said the organization donates furniture to needy families, but does not give away cash.
