UPDATE: Area of Highway 331 Now Reopened

This story was updated at 1:20 p.m. with information from the Florida Highway Patrol. The roadway has been reopened.

Four vehicles were involved in the accident this morning that blocked both lanes of Highway 331 in Walton County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Denis Leonel Martinez, 34, of Louisville KY was driving a Dodge Caravan while traveling south on US Highway 331, while passing a line of traffic in a no passing zone.

Leonard Scott Woodward, 50, of DeFuniak Springs FL, was in front of Martinez at the time. Martinez was unable to get back into the southbound lane and ended up side-swiping Woodward. Martinez then entered the Northbound lane where Shannon Addleman, 42, of Lakeland FL, was in a semi-truck.

According to the press release, the impact caused Addleman to
veer into the southbound lane where Douglas Lehotay, 48, of Crestview FL was in a petroleum fuel tanker.

Lehotay could not stop in time, but took evasive action
by swerving to the western shoulder, along southbound US Highway 331. He and Addleman crashed head-on and Lehotay rolled over into its passenger side.

Addleman, Lehotay, and Martinez have been classified as in serious condition following the accident. Woodward did not have any injuries.

At this time, charges have not been filed.

A Tuesday morning crash has blocked both lanes of traffic on Highway 331, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

An email alert was sent out at approximately 8:09 a.m. stating that both lanes of the highway were blocked and traffic was being re-routed.

An update sent at 8:21 a.m. explained that traffic headed north was being re-routed from 331 to Highway 20 and up Highway 81. Traffic southbound on 331 is being sent down Rock Hill Road to Highway 81.

As of 8:53 a.m. the road was expected to be closed for a minimum of two hours. Two patients who were injured in the accident have been flown out by helicopters.

Message boards are being placed on the highways at this time advising of alternate routes until the road has been opened up.

Signs will be advising those traveling south on Highway 331 to take I-10 eastbound to Highway 81 south instead of routing through Rock Hill Road. Those headed north on 331 will take highway 20 to Highway 81 north.

Drivers are asked to follow signs and re-routed directions given by authorities.

The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation.

This story will be updated as information becomes available.
