TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Students in Tuscaloosa are asking residents to say "Cheese" to show their support for building a new high school.

Reports say students of Holt High School set up booths in a shopping center parking lot Saturday to show residents the condition of their current school building, the oldest among Tuscaloosa County's public schools.

Rather than collect signatures in a standard petition, the students were asking residents to show their support by allowing their faces to be photographed.

Jeffrey Parker, a University of Alabama psychology professor and Holt community organizer, says the students came up with idea to show that real people -- not just numbers -- agree they need a new school building.

Students plan to display the photos next Friday on clotheslines outside the school.
