HUNTSVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A jury in Madison County awarded $13 million in punitive damages to the family of a graduate student who died in a 2009 car accident.
Al.com reports a jury Tuesday ordered Duane Arlen Clark to pay the damages. Clark is already serving a prison sentence for manslaughter.
Authorities say Clark was driving under the influence of Xanax and prescribed methadone when he ran a light and hit Keara Kroelinger in Huntsville.
Kroelinger's father, Charles, says he'll use the money to establish an education fund in his daughter's name at Auburn University.
Keara Kroelinger graduated from Auburn University before pursing her master's degree in psychology at the University of Alabama.
