Lauren Faust, an animator and writer who has worked on several award-winning and fan-loved series, is backing a fundraising campaign to help a California wildlife shelter.
The Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, California has a $48,000 budget deficit for 2013. They have begun an online fundraising campaign through the website IndieGoGo. As of early Monday morning, over $14,000 had been donated.
This campaign is to help them care for lost, abandoned and injured wildlife that range from alligators to macaws to pythons and more.
Sunday, renowned animator/writer Lauren Faust posted about the fundraiser on the popular fan-art community site, DeviantArt.
Faust has worked on several popular animated series throughout the past two decades, including The Powerpuff Girls, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Super Best Friends Forever. One of her most passionate fanbases is the Bronies, adult fans of Friendship is Magic.
In her most recent post, Faust indicates that the Bronies have already helped raise thousands for the cause, but adds new incentives to attract an increased number of donations.
For every ten thousand dollars raised in the effort, the Wildlife Learning Center will name an animal after a pet from Friendship is Magic. Already, the fundraiser has passed the $10,000 mark, meaning a rabbit will be named Angel, after the pegasus Fluttershy’s rabbit from the series. Further animals would be named after a pet turtle, pet owl, and pet alligator from the show.
In addition, if the complete target of $48,000 is reached, Faust and voice actress Tara Strong will throw a “Thank You Bronies Party” at the Center, where fans can meet the two, as well as the animals. Strong has worked together with Faust on several animated series, including all of the ones listed above.
