Women learned the importance of being aware of their surroundings during a safety tips class.
Wednesday, the Abbeville Police Department held a women's safety tips course.
A dozen women showed up to the Abbeville Memorial Library to find out what they can do to stay safe.
Police Chief Marlos Walker wanted the women to start thing about having a plan in place just in case something does happen.
"I think it is important that people realize be aware of where you are the people that are around you particialariyl if you are coming out of a grocery store," said Dawn Clenney, Abbeville resident.
Chief Walker hopes to have a firearms course soon.
It will teach women how to safely shoot and clean a gun.
