Alabama Senator Scott Beason is calling for the state to repeal the Common Core Curriculum standards.
He filed legislation yesterday to remove the standards.
Beason says it's one of the most pressing issues in the state.
He says he believes the people want a legislative vote on the issue.
Opponents of Common Core call it a federal overreach into education, while business associations have embraced the standards.
Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh says Beason's bill won't make it to the Senate floor.
He says although he will study the issue, the Federal Government is not controlling education in Alabama.
