Hospital, County Commissian Dispute Inmate Medical Bill

An outstanding medical bill for a murder suspect may not be paid by officials.

Monday, the Geneva County commission took no action when it came to a $15-thousand dollar bill from Flowers Hospital in Dothan.

The medical service reportedly concerns a coronary condition experienced by Phenico "Phenix" Hornsby.

The 42-year-old is behind bars for murder, attempted murder, arson, and burglary.

In June, Hornsby led authorities on a 48-hour manhunt across rural Geneva County.

Despite Hornsby being a county inmate, commissioners took no action in paying the bill.

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward fears that may prompt the hospital in suing his department for payment.

Shouldn't "Phenix" be paying his own hospital bill since he was proably faking it anyway? Did they find anything wrong with him? I say apply any or everything he owns toward the bill and make him work out anything still owed in prison. I was unaware of the new law that states if you get arrested the county automatically has to pay your bills for you. Talk about overcrowding our jails.

I agree with the other People of Geneva County, he should pay his own bills, or Greg Ward, should make him work everyday from sun up to sumdown. Then he might think of what he has done.

i dont think the county should pay the bill. we are paying for him to stay in jail already isnt that enough, he hurt someone that was close to my family and he is the reason he is in jail so he sahould pay his own bill.
