70 Year-Old Woman Arrested For Attempted Robbery

An elderly woman on the verge of bankruptcy allegedly attempts to hold up a business.

Hartford police say Annie Cook Walked into the scooter store along Highway 52.

Authorities say she pulled out a butcher knife from her purse and demanded the clerk to hand over the cash.

Convenience store employees directed the 70-year-old to put down the weapon and they then called authorities.

Cook has been charged with attempted robbery and was released to the custody of her son.

She told police that she's on the verge of losing her home and felt that she would at least have a roof over her head in jail.

It's a shame what this country has become, our forefathers would cringe if they knew what was happening in 2007. When our elderly resort to holding up a store because they know they will go to jail and have at least three hots and a cot. The house she is on the verge of losing is probably the house she raised her family in and she can't deal with the idea of having to leave it. I can't help but wonder why her family hasn't stepped in before now but hopefully they can find a way to help her keep her home. I don't know who financed her house but it seems to me they could allow an elderly woman to live their until she dies. The heartlessness of creditors is outrageous!

This is George Bush's America: What a shame when all she needed to do was to invest a portion of the minimum wages she earned over the past 50 years into Haliburton...or she could have joined a church that would have looked after her in her old age...problem solved! Lock'er up and buy more bombs!

This sad story is a prime example of why we need to send more good paying jobs overseas!! The only people that are benefiting from our so called good economy are people with a lot of investment in the stock market. Washington D.C. has forgotten about the average wage earner in our country. I hope this poor lady can be helped by some government agency. Maybe some of the money spent (wasted) on foreign governments would be better off spent at HOME! Good Luck Ms Cook may God be with you.
