Fort Rucker UAV Flight

It's being called the way of the future in war fighting aviation! Fort Rucker hosted the first flight of the shadow unmanned aerial vehicles or UAV.

Distinguished guests and military personnel got to see what it is capable of Thursday.

Congressman Terry Everett had a chance to operate it from the ground control station.

The commands are basically point and click. It has a situational awareness display which is sent to the air vehicle by radio link and the UAV downlinks the command.

There are 56 shadows in the battlefield right now. 23 units in the theater are using them 21 in Iraq and 2 in Afghanistan.

The UAVs are only in the kindergarten stage and will see lots of changes in the future, but for now they're saving soldiers' lives.
