Watkins to Appeal Sentence

A convicted child abuser will be transferred back to Enterprise later this month with the hope of overturning her conviction.

Former daycare owner Julie Watkins pled guilty in July to the assault of Jake Garrett.

In 2005, the child suffered possible brain damage from baby shaking syndrome.

Watkins is serving 15 years in Tutwiler Women's Prison for the assault on Garrett.

She'll ask the court that a new trial be granted.

The defendant's initial attorney in the case has withdrawn from further representing her.

I agree. Murderers get less time that this. Serve a couple years, then do some probation time. 15 years is a bit harsh.

She doesn't deserve to be put in prison for that long because people who kill people only get 3 years. That is ridiculous. That should let her serve a couple years a drop it. The child is still alive, he may have problems in the future but at least they still have him. How do they think people feel who have there kids killed by a drunk driver and will never see them again.
