Phenix City Man Gets Death Sentence for Double Slaying

PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - A Russell County judge upheld a jury's recommendation and sentenced a Phenix City man to die by lethal injection for a murder and kidnapping spree two years ago.

34-year-old Brent Martin said nothing at yesterday's hearing as Circuit Judge George Greene read the sentence.

In early August, jurors found Martin guilty in the September 8th, 2005 slayings of his brother-in-law and another man in Phenix City. Martin was also convicted of kidnapping three women.

Martin is already serving two life terms for attempted murder and escape from the Russell County Jail that left a corrections officer wounded in January 2006.
