AMBER Alert Plans

After a summer of high profile child abductions, a group of Senators is introducing legislation to establish a nationwide AMBER Alert System.

The Senators announced the legislation Tuesday in Washington.

The AMBER Alert Program uses media broadcasters and highway signs to notify the public about a missing child or child abduction.

Fourteen states, including Alabama, have AMBER Alert Plans.

The Senate bill provides for a system that would allow local police to call incidents into a central location that would then disseminate the information around the country.

The bill also includes federal grants to states for communications networks used in the recovery of missing children.
