For the second day in a row officials have posted an air quality alert for Jefferson and Shelby counties. An ozone pollution alert is also in effect Thursday for Jefferson County.
Health officials say children, the elderly and people with respiratory problems are urged to curtail outdoor activities. Drivers are being asked to limit driving, avoid drive-troughs where vehicles idle for long periods and avoid refueling cars in the heat of the day.
