Boot Camp Medical Examiner Lone Applicant for Former Job

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - An embattled medical examiner who was removed from his job is now the only applicant for his former position.

Charles Siebert Junior is the lone applicant for the permanent medical examiner for six Panhandle counties. He held the job for four years before the state Medical Examiners Commission voted to remove him.

Siebert conducted the autopsy of 14-year-old Martin Lee Anderson. Anderson died in January 2006 after he was roughed up by guards in a videotaped encounter at a sheriff's boot camp.

Siebert ruled Anderson's death was caused by natural complications of sickle cell trait. Anderson's body was later exhumed and a second autopsy by another doctor found he died from suffocation.
