Man Sentenced in Attempted Copper Theft Case

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A man who tried to steal copper from a power company's substation has been sentenced to time in a state prison.

Maxie Stamps received an electrical shock when he tried to steal copper from a Gulf Power Company substation this past year.

He was sentenced to 21 months and was given a 15-month sentence for an escape charge. He left a work-release program in 2006.

Stamps pleaded guilty to several charges earlier this year.
