Teen Charged After Fire at School for Troubled Youth

ABBEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - An Abbeville teen has been charged with second-degree arson for allegedly setting fire to the kitchen of a state school for troubled young people.

Abbeville police arrested 18-year-old Andrevius Quartz Underwood Wednesday.

He is charged with setting the fire on the campus of the Southeast Alabama Youth Leadership Academy.

According to a police statement, Underwood was being held without bail at the Henry County Jail.

No one was injured in the fire that occurred around 2 p.m.

Police arrested Underwood about six hours later on the school campus.

Police said the fire started in the kitchen, but instructors used a fire extinguisher and contained the blaze before it spread across the campus.

Sowell said the kitchen wasn't destroyed.

Police arrested Underwood, a student at the school, after interviews with other students led them to file charges.
