Houston County Budget Hearings Begin

Houston County officials began working on a spending plan for the next fiscal year.

County Administrator Roy Roberts says department heads have submitted budget requests totaling more than 40 million dollars.

That's about 5 million dollars more than last year.

County commissioners will be working over the next few days to establish funding priorities.

They are hoping to provide county employees with a cost of living increase in next year's budget.

Roberts says tax revenues are up about 4 million dollars over last year.
