OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - An Opelika teenager was placed in juvenile detention after police found a half pound of dynamite in his bedroom.
Opelika Police Captain Allan Elkins said it all started Tuesday morning when a neighbor accused the teen of breaking into her house. He said that prompted detectives to search the 16 year old's house where the TNT was found.
The discovery prompted police to evacuate residents in nearby homes and Elkins said the dynamite was safely removed. The teen was charged with burglary and theft and faces additional charges regarding the explosives.
Authorities are trying to determine how the teen obtained the dynamite and what he intended to do with the material.
