Deputies Helping Elderly During Heat Wave

One law enforcement agency is taking a proactive role when it comes to protecting the most vulnerable from the oppressive heat.

DeFuniak Springs Police dispatchers, along with the Walton County Sheriff's department, have been trying to check on elderly residents.

Some are without air conditioning and are homebound.

Nationwide, the heat wave has claimed more than two-dozen lives so far across the south.

DeFuniak City Marshall Michael Adkinson does not want any tragedies like those in Walton County.

DeFuniak Springs residents interested in getting on the police check list should contact the police department at 850-892-8511.
