Medical Community Stays Busy

The Southeast Alabama Medical Center Emergency staff has had to see three patients because of heat-related illnesses Wednesday.

That's compared to the many they've already cared for because of the extreme temperatures.

With the heat index soaring many people are having a hard time protecting themselves from injury.

Heat stroke primarily affects older people, while heat-exhaustion can affect just about everyone.

Experts advise people to stay hydrated because heat exhaustion could easily progress to a deadly heat stroke.

Doctors also say if you or someone you know has any symptoms of a heat injury to call emergency personnel immediately.
