A new million dollar water tower in one Panhandle town is causing city officials to look for a life boat.
Officials say the new Bonifay tank was built nine feet too tall.
The half-million gallon tank and accompanying well were supposed to provide improved water service for future expansion.
But, the height issue along with sand problems in the water has prevented the system from going on-line.
The city is working with the water tower's designer to figure out what to do.
“We thought it would be a good investment and it will be when problem is fixed. We have good water in city of Bonifay, tank has been an issue for some time... worried it will hurt the water here," said Mica McCormick of Bonifay City Councilman.
Without the additional water tower, future residential and business construction is expected to slow down.
