Heat Advisories Issued for Most of Alabama

UNDATED, Ala. (AP) - The National Weather Service is warning Alabamians to take precautions in the intense heat wave that has gripped the state.

Meteorologists says heat index values could climb as high as 105 across most of the state. Temperatures today are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s.

Health officials warn people who have to be outside in the heat to drink plenty of non-caffienated fluids.

If you must venture outdoors for an extended period of time - keep the following tips in mind:

  • Wear loose, lightly colored clothing and wear a hat
  • drink plenty of water
  • take frequent breaks in the shade
  • check on the elderly, children and pets because they are
especially vulnerable to the extreme heat.

Hot and humid conditions likely will last through most of the week.
