Alabama Medicaid

Gov. Don Siegelman said he's getting a $54.2 million supplemental grant from the Washington-based centers for Medicare and Medicaid services.

The payment will allow the state to promptly reimburse healthcare providers that accept Medicaid.

State governments are supposed to bear 30 percent of all Medicaid costs.

However, federal officials complain that Alabama does not pay its fair share. Nearly 700,000 Alabamians rely on Medicaid for healthcare.
