DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Doctors are "feeling good" about the 15-year-old girl who endured a brutal beating at a Deerfield Beach middle school.

Josie Lou Ratley remained Monday in critical condition and in a medically induced coma at a hospital.

Her family's attorney says doctors are optimistic after two surgeries to relieve pressure on her brain.

Her mother told the NBC "Today Show" that her daughter didn't
know the suspect.

Hilda Gotay Ratley also said she knew nothing about the text message exchange authorities said triggered the attack.

The 15-year-old suspect is accused of punching and stomping on
the girl with steel-toed boots.

He's being held in a juvenile detention center on a charge of premeditated attempted murder.

A 13-year-old girl was arrested as an accessory.
