As police continue to search for a killer residents and family speak out about the murder of Grace Ann Bridges Dedert.

She was gunned down Wednesday by a suspect who is still at large.

Grace Ann Bridges Dedert’s family refers to her as amazing grace. A woman who worked hard all her life and was always there for everyone.

They say they intend to continue her dream.

Wendy Northington, Grace’s Daughter, says, “always wanted to open furniture store and she retired and had the opportunity and when she found the location close to home and so we did it.”

Grace Ann Bridges Dedert was a retired home health nurse who family members say always put other people first. She always had a coffee pot on and a smile for customers at the store.

“She is so loved in this community and there are so many friends and stuff that she would just sit down and have a cup of coffee and listen to them she was just wonderful”, said Northington.

According to family members she was found Wednesday by a customer in her office, shot in the chest. She had started to dial a number on the phone. Police have interviewed persons of interest and are still pursuing leads in the case.

Chief Benton, Dothan Police, says, “this is not a good thing for this community, the quicker we get it solved the better everyone will feel.”

The owner of Fortner Street Convenience said Grace Ann stopped in the store every other day and hopes the killer will be caught.

“Yeah, I'm worried and concerned about the outcome, you know hopefully police get the guys,” said Ansari.

Some folks who frequent the area are taking more precautions now.

Jamarr, a boy who visits the neighborhood, says, “I used to walk here with my friend or on bikes or I just walked by myself but now since I heard about the lady getting killed I'm not going to do it no more.”

Grace Ann's daughter says they will not let her murder scare them away or end her dream.

“Don and I , my Mom's husband, they're the ones that opened the store together, and I was here to begin with to help them open the store, yes I'm coming in Don and I are reopening the store,” said Northington.

Authorities are continuing to receive calls through Crimestoppers and they are hopeful that an arrest will soon be made.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.

If you have any information regarding this crime you're asked to call Crimestoppers at 334-793-7000.
