Students at Ashford Elementary thought about their future Thursday.

The first career day was held at the school. Professions like law enforcement, media and health care were among the list of occupations the kids could pursue. School officials say it’s a way for students to get a head start on their future.

“This was an opportunity to involve the community, let them come in and expose our students to the different types of occupations that are available and as well as letting them know what subjects are very important in school to keep them focused and to get them excited,” said Marie Payne, a counselor at Ashford Elementary School.

School officials say they hope to continue to activity expanding it each year.
