TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Legislation that would tighten screening and criminal background checks for people who work with children, seniors and disable people has clearded the Florida House.
The bill that unanimously passed Thursday would prohibit applicants from going to work before their screening has been completed and require everyone seeking such a job to be fingerprinted.
Existing law had permitted some people to work before getting
cleared or get approval without fingerprinting.
The bill is in response to an investigation by the South Florida
Sun-Sentinel that showed convicted felons were getting through the
present screening process.
