The Texas woman serving life for the drowning deaths of her children in a bathtub has been transferred from prison to a Galveston hospital.
Andrea Yates' attorney says his client refuses to eat and her condition is unclear. She's described as incoherent.
Yates mounted an insanity defense at her 2002 trial, but jurors found her guilty of capital murder in the deaths of three of the children. She was not tried in the deaths of the other two. Yates will be eligible for parole in 2041.
During her trial, psychiatrists testified that Yates suffered from schizophrenia and postpartum depression. Defense and prosecution expert witnesses disagreed over the severity of her illness.
Jurors determined Yates knew it was wrong to kill her children and found her guilty.
