Four Lane Construction

A long-awaited highway construction project in Dothan could begin soon, but city officials may have to go to court to make it happen.

Plans to four-lane Westgate Parkway in Dothan have been on the drawing board for years.

Interim City Manager Jerry Corbin gave city commissioners an update on the project Tuesday.

All of Westgate except for a section between Highway 231 and Headland Avenue has already been four-laned. Some 100 property-owners along that stretch will be affected.

Right-of-way negotiations with about two-thirds of the residents have been completed, but Corbin says the city will probably have to take some property-owners to court.

Corbin says he hopes construction on the final phase of four-laning Westgate Parkway will begin early next year. The project will take about 15 months to complete and cost about $5.7 million.
