Six Killed in Crenshaw County

Six people, including three teen-age boys, were found shot to death at a house and nearby mobile home in rural Crenshaw County.

District Attorney John Andrews issued a brief statement and said the bodies were found inside and outside the residences after sheriff's deputies were called to the scene about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

He did not provide any information about a possible motive or whether investigators had any suspects.

He said two of the bodies were found when the officers arrived Tuesday night, three more were found later, and the sixth was found Wednesday morning.

The district attorney did not identify the victims, but Coleman Ball of nearby Greenville said they were all members of his family.

He said his mother, 62-year-old Mila Ruth Ball, who lived in the house, was killed, as was his sister, 35-year-old Joann Ball, who lived in the mobile home. He said the other victims were three of his nephews -- 18-year-old Jerry Ball, 16-year-old Tony Ball and 14-year-old John Ball, all brothers -- and also killed was Willie Hasley, whose age and hometown were not immediately available. Ball said he was related to Joann Ball by marriage.

Ball said he went to his mother's home near Rutledge after an aunt called and said the door to the house was locked and she was concerned.

The site of the killings is near Rutledge, about 30 miles south of Montgomery.
