Funeral Arrangements Set For Ragan and Watson

Funeral services have been finalized for a Dothan radio personality and a child who were killed in a plane crash in the Florida Panhandle.

Thursday, Russ Ragan was piloting the single engine Cessna when it went down near a landing-strip between Campbellton and Graceville.

7-year-old John Allen Watson was also on board.

Ragan died at the scene.

The child was airlifted to a Panama City hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Visitation for Russ Ragan will be held from 5 until 7 pm Saturday at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel in Dothan.

The funeral is scheduled for 2 pm Sunday at the same location.

Visitation for John Allen Watson will be held from 5 until 8 pm Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Graceville.

The funeral will be held at the church at 10 am on Monday.

Ragan was taking the child for a brief ride in his plane when the engine apparently failed and the aircraft slammed into a dry farm pond.

I attended Ashford High School with Russ, and he always had a smile and kind words for everyone. His death is a great lost for his family, his friends, and his community. May God's love comfort you all.

I was fortunate enough to work with Russ at WTVY-FM back in the 90's. I also had the pleaseure of knowing Mr. Ragen. Russ was a fine, upstanding andhard working person. I'm sure I speak for everyone who knew him when I say he will be sorely missed.
