Student Policy on Tobacco Use

Nationally, teen-age tobacco use is on the rise. But here in Dothan, the City School Board and local police are working to change that.

Beginning this school year, students caught with tobacco products, including matches and lighters, will have a letter sent home by the school resource officer for the first offense.

On the second offense, the student will be issued a citation with fines ranging from $10 to $50. And, they will also be required to appear before juvenile court.

At Northview High School administrators said they've already received a positive response from parents. With the new policy, students and their parents are held accountable.

The Dothan City School Board will be sending letters to parents regarding the new program soon.
