Body of Fallen Soldier Returned to Walker County

CARBON HILL, Ala. (AP) - The flag-draped coffin carrying a fallen Alabama soldier was returned to his hometown in Walker County.

The body of Richard Gilmore the Third arrived at Birmingham International Airport Wednesday morning.

He was killed by a roadside bomb on July 18th. Gilmore, who was 22, was a member of the U.S. Army's 126th Infantry Division, based in Germany.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars held a memorial service at the Walker County Courthouse and flags throughout the county were lowered at half staff in Gilmore's honor.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Gilmore is survived by his wife, two children and his parents.
