WestPoint Home Plant Unable to Find a New Occupant

Efforts are continuing to find a new occupant for the WestPoint Home plant in Abbeville.

The facility is scheduled to close by the end of next month.

Tuesday, News 4 was the first to report that a company already in the Wiregrass area may be looking to expand in Abbeville.

Henry County Extension Coordinator James Jones, Jr. says representatives from Armor Holding Company of Geneva have toured the WestPoint Home building and could occupy part of the facility.

Wednesday, Abbeville Public Information Director Chad Sowell said Mayor Rhett Taylor is working with state officials to contact other industries that might be interested as well.

But Sowell says so far, no company has committed to setting up shop in Abbeville.

Some 750 workers will be laid-off by the WestPoint Home shut down.
