Work crews were busy improving security measures at the Coffee County Jail.

Sheriff Dave Sutton wants razor-wire placed atop a 12-foot fence which surrounds the facility.

Last spring, several persons were arrested after they scaled the fence in order to get contraband into the jail.

Since taking office in January, the sheriff and his staff have been working on the jail's overall security.

It's for the security of the inmates as well as correction's officers.

"Sheriff made decision for this precautionary step and they'll be two strands of wire coming from the ground to keep them from scaling the fence as well," said Capt. Richard Moss of Coffee Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Recently, repairs were made on many of the jail cells locks. Sheriff Sutton says the facility will be prominent in next year's department budget.
