Dale County Deputy Accused of Beating Man with Bat

DALEVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Dale County sheriff's deputy remains on administrative leave after being accused of beating a Daleville man with a baseball bat.

Daleville Police Chief Jimmy Seaton said a warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of 40-year-old John Biestline. He's facing a charge of third-degree assault.

The victim, 23-year-old Roderick McDonald, alleges he was beaten with a baseball bat at his residence on July 7th. Seaton says Biestline, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, had driven to McDonald's residence. He's been a deputy more than 10 years.

Dale County District Attorney Kirke Adams says the incident appears to be a domestic dispute.

as a law official, i know firsthand a man that has been a deputy for more than 10 years knows better than to disregard all laws and morales by which he stands for and risk his life and career just to go to a man's house and beat him for no reason. there is without a doubt something deeper going on which has not been brought out yet and i only hope that the investigators get to the bottom and justice is served either way around. as far as mental state, if you're checking one you need to check the other.

There has to be something which would provoke someone to do this. There is always two sides to every story???

Being a Police Officers have a very Stressful Job and they should under go required periodic mental as well as physical exam to include drug testing. Police have the Authority and the responsibility to use deadly force there should be No Question about their mental state.
